Regenerative Aesthetics with BBL Hero and Exosomes
Studio R Aesthetics is proud to be the first practice to bring Sciton's BBL Hero to Charlottesville!
BBL Hero is an award-winning technology that improved the appearance of aging skin and reduces rosacea, acne, melasma, and sun spots comfortably with little to no downtime. Patients can enjoy social activities immediately after treatment and typically see visible results after just one treatment, whereas less effective IPL treatments typically take 5 to 6 treatments to see results.
As we age, our skin loses its fresh and smooth appearance because we lose collagen and elastin. Clinical trials have shown that topical exosomes can stimulate fibroblast cell proliferation, increase collagen and elastin, and can be used to decrease the age of skin and treat a variety of skin conditions.
What is Broadband light (BBL) and how does it work?
Broadband light is a non-ablative device that delivers light in the visible and infrared spectrum as phototherapy or photorejuvenation to treat a variety of conditions including:
- Sun damage
- Acne
- Rosacea
- Melasma
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Vascular lesions such as telangiectasias and cherry angiomas
- Coarse, dull skin texture
- Large pores
BBL is similar to Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) with differences described below. This technology is a great way to avoid more invasive procedures later in life like plastic surgery.
What are the differences between BBL and IPL?
BBL is a more advanced version of IPL and offers a number of substantial benefits compared to traditional IPL machines:
- State of the art cooling features that ensure maximal patient comfort with minimal side effects
- Filters that allow treatment of a wider range of skin conditions with increased firming and tightening of the skin
- BBL treatments have been shown to functionally change gene expression in aged skin to be more like younger skin, which is why it is considered regenerative aesthetics
- Better outcomes when treating conditions such as brown spots and acne when compared to IPL
- BBL Hero is performed more quickly than IPL and does not result in IPL striping or scarring that occurs as a result of the stamping process used with all IPL devices
What can I expect during a BBL treatment?
Most patients do not need topical anesthetic and experience warmth during treatment. We will apply a cooling gel prior to the procedure and patients will wear protective eyewear. A typical treatment takes 30 minutes.
How do I prepare for a BBL treatment?
Patients undergoing BBL treatment should avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks before and after treatment.
Patients should avoid waxing, sugaring, chemical peels, and products containing retinol, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid for 1 week prior to treatment.
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny structure measuring 30-200 nm that play an important role in influencing the environment around cells to regulate communication and facilitate the exchange of RNA and important proteins between cells, in addition to transferring numerous growth factors, cytokines and genetic material that signal tissue repair and improve the health of skin cells.
As we age, our skin loses its fresh and smooth appearance because we lose collagen and elastin. Clinical trials have shown that topical exosomes can stimulate fibroblast cell proliferation, increase collagen and elastin, and can be used to decrease the age of skin and treat a variety of conditions.
What can exosomes be used for?
When exosomes are applied to the skin, they can:
- Reduce post-procedure redness and reduce downtime
- Reduce the appearance of age-related pigment
- Visibly make skin appear firmer and more youthful
- Visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Hydrate and nourish the skin
- Promote a more radiant and even toned complexion
When exosomes are applied to the scalp, they can:
- Visibly make hair look and feel softer, shinier, and fuller
- Hydrate and nourish the scalp
- Promote a healthy hair growth cycle
- Noticeably reduce hair shedding
Which treatments are exosomes best paired with?
While topical exosomes can be applied directly to the skin, they are more effective when applied after treatments that allow the exosomes to penetrate deeper into the skin such as:
- Chemical peels
- Microneedling treatments
- RF microneedling treatments
- Moxi laser treatments
- CO2 laser treatments
